paradigm of education act in kashmiri perspective

This refers to the letter in GK titled “Let’s welcome it” regarding the implementation of the right to education act. Before its implementation, it is
mandatory for the government to ensure that it is ready to implement it and that it fulfills all the prerequisites needed for its success. Despite various developmental schemes and projects, the Government has failed to retain children in Govt schools, and the drop out
rate of students keeps increasing after 8th standard. No doubt the Government has deemed education as a fundamental right but unless parents are ready to have their children educated in government schools, the policy will remain on paper only. Our education system is beset with multiple problems, especially that of poor infrastructure and insufficient staff. Many Government schools are run in rented accommodations or in open fields with no facility for sanitation and co-curricular activities. Government has to squarely share the blame for the poor results in Government schools as it has failed to revive the system. Government schools no longer enjoy the status they used to enjoy 20 or 30 years before. Also for successful implementation of the RTE in Kashmir, the Government needs to continuously monitor the work in government schools besides check the large scale bungling in the Mid-Day meals Scheme. The Government needs to increase its GDP on education from 3% to provide the schools with modern technology to keep pace with modern era. The authorities need to check the mushroom growth of private schools which has ruined elementary education system. Let they show some seriousness in implementation of the Act so that poor students don’t suffer.
